Sylvia grew up in Bullitt County, Kentucky. Her ability to rise above many obstacles while she was growing up helped her to focus on the needs of others and lead her to a career in nursing. She completed her Associates degree in Nursing from Jefferson Community College. She went further and earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Nursing and MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. The Christian based curriculum at Indiana Wesleyan University prepared her to work in many areas including intensive care, oncology, hospice, and now home health. She currently serves as the Executive Director for Caretenders/LHC in Louisville. She is passionate about keeping patients in their homes as long as possible because that is where they want to be.
Sylvia has a generous spirit and is always there for her friends and family. She goes out of her way to make others feel special. Sylvia would do just about anything to make someone’s day better from giving the jacket of her back (which she has done!) to making honey bun cake] for her co-workers. She loves to cook and try new recipes. She has never met a stranger and her motto is “the more the merrier” when it comes to having dinner. She enjoys big holidays with Grant, her husband of 20 years, their kids and grandkids. Her little dog, Indy, is always there too!
Sylvia is excited to be a part of Let’s Dance Louisville and contribute to the efforts of Feed My Neighbor. She believes that if people don’t have the basics in life such as food, then they can’t think of much else or improve their situation. Sylvia is known to her family as the Little General because they call on her when they need to get things done. She’s here to get things done just like in her favorite Christmas movie, Die Hard. Boom! And to her competitors, Yippeekiyay!
